Great leaders and great teams have been called upon to make and follow through on tough decisions.  What can CEOs learn from military and government leaders about crisis management?   Join us at the historic and beautiful Union League of Philadelphia where our speakers will share their experiences and lessons learned.  Gary Crowell, former Special Assistant to the Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, and retired Lieutenant Colonel Todd Gile, who served 23 years as an Engineer Officer in the US Army, will relate their experiences ranging from preparedness to implementation and recovery, and will explore parallels with the corporate world.

BIOS:
Gary E. Crowell, President and CEO, PA Industries for the Blind and Handicapped

Gary is President and CEO of Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped; a non-profit organization having the mission to secure employment for persons with disabilities, market products and services they produce, and promote the general well being of individuals with disabilities.

Gary previously served as Special Assistant to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and was Assistant Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Washington, D.C.  Prior to moving to the Federal Government, Gary was Secretary of the Department of General Services, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Prior positions include: Vice President of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, Chief Clerk of the Pennsylvania Senate, Executive Director, Independent Regulatory Review Committee, and Director of the Office of Administrative Services, Department of Justice.

Gary has been inducted into the Pennsylvania Military and Veterans Hall of Fame, is a recipient of the Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal and an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, and is a distinguished alumnus of the Tyrone Area School District.

Todd A. Gile, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired)

Todd served a 23-year career as an Engineer Officer in the US Army retiring in 2009.  He served in numerous combat units from the 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat)(Airborne) to the 6th Engineer Battalion (Light) to the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) where he was the Group Engineer.

Todd served two tours in the mid-East, first during Operation Desert Storm as the S-4 of the 33rd Engineer Battalion (Prov) in support of 3rd Brigade, 3rd Armor Division and again as the CJTF-Ku Engineer Chief at Camp Doha, Kuwait.

In 2003, while assigned to the Memphis Engineer District, he was awarded the Bronze Order of the de Fleury medal for professional competence, integrity and moral character to the Engineer Regiment. He also served as the Chief of Operations for the George C. Marshall Center’s College of International Security Studies in Garmisch, Germany.

Prior to retirement, Todd was the Commander and Department Head of the Wildcat Battalion at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI.  Post retirement, Todd spent two years working in the Biomechanics department of Penn State where he taught lab classes in anatomy and biomechanics.

The Union League of Philadelphia has a strictly enforced business casual dress code requirement in the building.  Jeans, shorts, sneakers and sandals are not permitted.
